Slow Cooker Ham
For this recipe, opt for a fully-cooked, bone-in ham that isn’t spiral cut. Non-spiral cut hams usually retain more moisture and are easier to carve on your own.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
- 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1 (12-oz.) can Dr Pepper or Coca-Cola
- 1 (5- to 7-lb.) fully cooked bone-in ham
- 20 whole cloves
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, and 1/2 cup soda until the sugar is melted and the mixture is bubbly. Reduce the heat and simmer until thick, 7 to 8 minutes.
- Pour the remaining soda into a 6-quart slow cooker. Stud the ham in several places with the cloves, then place the ham in the slow cooker. Brush the ham with 1/4 cup of the glaze (refrigerate the remaining glaze until ready to use). Cover the slow cooker and cook on low until the ham is hot throughout, 5 to 6 hours.
- A few minutes before the ham is ready, reheat the remaining glaze until warmed, about 3 minutes. Remove the ham from the slow cooker and brush with the remaining glaze. Carve the ham.
