Ingredients
  

  • 4 medium sized raw bananas or balekai
  • A big pinch of turmeric powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • Salt as per your taste
  • Small gooseberry sized tamarind

Ingredients for grinding:

  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 2 – 4 green chillies
  • Some coriander leaves

Ingredients for tempering:

  • 1 red chili
  • 5 – 6 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp gram dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions
 

  • Peel the raw bananas and rinse them.
  • Chop them into pieces. I have used 4 medium sized raw bananas.
  • In a deep frying pan, prepare tempering using 2 tbsp oil, mustard seeds, gram dal, urad dal and red chilles.
  • Add in curry leaves once the mustard seeds start to splutter.
  • Add in chopped raw banana. Add in turmeric powder and asafoetida. Give a quick mix.
  • Add in salt and tamarind paste. Add 1/2 cup of water. Give a quick mix.
  • Close the lid and cook until soft under low flame.
  • Meantime take coconut, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and mustard seeds in a mixie jar.
  • Add in coriander leaves and gree chilli. Grind until semifine paste by adding required water.
  • Wait until the raw banana is cooked. Add in ground masala.
  • Give a good mix and continue cooking for 2 minutes. Serve it with hot rice or chapathi and enjoy!!
