Ingredients
  

  • 2-3 red chillies or green chillies
  • 2 tsp urad dal
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic (or big pinch asafoetida)
  • 1 small sized onion
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 1 small sized tomato
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 4 tbsp roasted gram (hurigadale or putani)
  • Salt as per your taste
  • 1 tsp oil

Ingredients for tempering

  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 red chilli
  • 2 tsp cooking oil
  • 4 curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • Heat a tsp oil. Fry red chillies and urad dal until urad dal turns slightly brown.
  • Add in garlic. If you don't like garlic replace it with a big pinch of asafoetida and add it at the end while tempering the chutney.
  • Add in chopped onion. Fry until onions turn soft.
  • Add in curry leaves and tomato. Fry until tomatoes turn soft.
  • Lastly add in grated coconut and roasted gram. Fry everything together for a while and switch off the stove.
  • Wait until warm and transfer it into a mixie jar. Add in salt as per your taste. Grind it into a fine paste by adding required water.
  • Temper it with oil, mustard seeds, red chilli and curry leaves. Seerve it with idli or dosa.
