Lithuanian Kepta Duona Recipe
Kepta Duona originated in Lithuania but is also popular in other Baltic countries. Bread is a staple in the Lithuanian diet, and this dish is thought to have been created as a way to use up stale bread. It also provided a new way to enjoy another beloved Lithuanian staple—beer!
Ingredients
- 1 loaf Brown bread – 1 loaf
- Vegetable oil – as needed
- 2 Garlic cloves
- Salt – as needed
Instructions
- Cut the bread into short strips.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan.
- Fry the bread pieces in several batches until golden brown. The oil may need to be refilled.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Rub the still hot slices of bread with a peeled clove of garlic on all sides and sprinkle generously with salt.
