Japanese Temaki Recipe
Temaki is seen as a more casual, fast food-style sushi and is a popular choice at street food stalls throughout Japan. It’s also commonly served at parties and gatherings, where guests can roll their own ingredients into cones of nori.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Sushi rice (cooked)
- Nori sheets – 8
- Sashimi-grade tuna (sliced) – 7 oz
- Sashimi-grade salmon (sliced) – 7 oz
- Cooked shrimp (peeled and deveined) – 7 oz
- Avocado (sliced) – 1
- Cucumber (julienned) – 1
- Carrot (julienned) – 1
- Radish sprouts – 1 cup
- Soy sauce – for dipping
- Wasabi – for dipping
- Pickled ginger – for serving
Instructions
- Place a nori sheet on a clean, dry surface.
- Spoon a small amount of sushi rice onto the nori sheet, spreading it evenly over one-third of the sheet.
- Arrange your desired fillings diagonally across the rice.
- Starting from the bottom corner, tightly roll the nori sheet into a cone shape, enclosing the fillings.
- Seal the edge of the nori with a dab of water to secure the temaki.
- Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets and fillings.
- Serve the temaki immediately with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
