Ingredients
- 1/2 part of a tender jackfruit
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 tsp gram dal or chana dal
- 4 – 6 tsp cooking oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- A big pinch of turmeric powder
- A big pinch of asafoetida
- 4-5 curry leaves
- 1 gooseberry sized jaggery
- 1 gooseberry sized tamarind
- Salt as per your taste
Ingredients for grinding:
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 3 red chillies
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
Instructions
- Peel the outer part, remove the inside part and chop the raw jackfruit. Put them in water for easy handling..
- Take chopped raw jackfruit in a pressure cooker. Also add in a tsp of salt and a pinch of turmeric.
- Add in required water and cook until soft.
- Once cooked, drain the water and mash it roughly. You can even pulse it using mixer grinder.
- Now for the masala, grind grated coconut, red chilli, mustard seeds and coriander seeds using a mixer grinder without adding any water.
- In a frying pan prepare tempering using oil, mustard seeds, gram dal, urad dal, red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add in asafoetida and turmeric powder.
- Next add in cooked and mashed tender jackfruit.
- Add in salt, jaggery and tamarind as per your taste. Give a good mix. Add in little water, if you find it very dry.
- Add in ground masala.
- Give a quick mix. Switch off the stove. Serve it with hot steaming rice or chapathi.
