Chana masala recipe

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white chickpeas or Kabuli chana or kabul kadle
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste or finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp jeera or cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp coriander or dhaniya powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp amchur powder
- 1 tbsp kasuri methi or dried methi leaves (optional)
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt as per your taste
Instructions
- Rinse and soak kabul kadle or white chana for 5 – 6 hours.
- Next take oil in a pressure cooker and heat it. Add in 1/2 tsp jeera and 1 bay leaf.
- When the cumin seed splutters, add in giner+garic paste. Give a quick stir.
- Next add in chopped onion and fry until soft.
- Next add in chopped tomato and fry until soft.
- Add in dry spice powders like red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, amchur powder and garam masala powder. Give a quick mix.
- Next add in salt and turmeric powder.
- Add in soaked white chickpeas.
- Add in 2 cups of water and kasuri methi.
- Close the lid and allow it to cook until white chickpeas are soft.
- Once chickpeas or chana is cooked, mash some chick peas using back of a spatula.
- Boil it again for few minutes.
- Switch off the stove and add in batter. Serve it with roti or chapathi or batura.
