Azerbaijani Shekerbura Recipe
Shekerbura is a traditional Azerbaijani pastry filled with nuts and sugar. Shaped like a crescent, it is often decorated with intricate patterns.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 4 cups
- Butter (softened) – 1 cup
- Sugar – 1/2 cup
- Eggs – 2
- Milk – 1/2 cup
- Baking powder – 1 tsp
- Ground almonds or walnuts – 2 cups
- Powdered sugar – 1 cup
- Cardamom (ground) – 1 tsp
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour and baking powder. Add softened butter and mix until crumbly.
- Beat in sugar and eggs, followed by milk, to form a dough. Knead until smooth.
- In another bowl, combine ground nuts, powdered sugar, and cardamom for the filling.
- Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle, fold into a crescent, and seal the edges.
- Decorate the surface with patterns using a fork or special tool.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Let cool before serving.
