  • Pickled herrings – 2-3 slices
  • Red onion rings – 4 slices
  • Small gherkins – 1-2
  • Fresh dill or thyme
  • Cayenne pepper or paprika, optional – to taste

Instructions
 

  • Spread the Danish remoulade or the butter on the rye bread. 
  • Place the herrings, onion rings, and diced gherkins on top. 
  • Garnish with thyme or dill and sprinkle cayenne pepper to taste.
