Slovakian Zemiakové Placky (Potato Pancakes) Recipe
Zemiakové placky are traditional Slovakian potato pancakes. Finely grated raw potatoes are combined with eggs, spices, salt, garlic, and flour to create a thick batter. The batter is then spooned onto hot oil or lard and fried on both sides until golden brown.
Ingredients
- Potatoes – 1 lb
- Egg – 1
- All-purpose flour – 1 tbsp
- Sour cream – 1 tbsp
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Marjoram – 2 tsp
- Salt and black pepper – to taste
- Oil – for frying
Instructions
- Grate the peeled potatoes coarsely.
- Mix them with the egg, flour and sour cream.
- Add crushed garlic cloves, marjoram, salt and pepper.
- Mix to form a semi-thick dough.
- Fry pancakes in hot oil until golden brown.
- Once removed from the pan, transfer them to paper towels to drain off the excess oil.
