
Sharp Cheddar Sausage Balls
This classic finger-food appetizer is popular for a reason!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. freshly grated black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup coarsely grated yellow onion
- 8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated (about 2 cups)
- 1 lb. loose pork breakfast sausage
- 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
- 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh sage, plus small leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Add onion, cheddar, sausage, butter, and sage and mix until fully combined (it’s easiest to do this with clean hands.)
- Scoop sausage balls (about 1 tablespoon each) onto a large rimmed baking sheet, leaving 1 inch between each. Gently press a small sage leaf into the top of each sausage ball. Bake until golden brown, 23 to 25 minutes.
