Sandwich without Bread

Sandwich without Bread

A "Sandwich without Bread" is a creative and healthy twist on the traditional sandwich, replacing bread with alternatives like lettuce leaves, cucumber slices, grilled eggplant, or even sweet potatoes. This low-carb option is ideal for those following keto, gluten-free, or weight-loss diets. It allows for versatile fillings such as meats, cheeses, vegetables, or spreads, offering the same flavors and satisfaction of a sandwich without the carbs.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Rava/Suji (semolina)
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 cup Curd
  • 1½ cup Water

For Flavoring

  • 3 tsp Oil
  • ½ tsp Heeng (asafoetida)
  • 2 nos Dry red chillies
  • 2 tsp Urad Dal
  • 2 tsp Chana dal
  • 2 tsp Ginger chopped
  • 2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • handful Curry Leaves
  • 2 tsp Green chilli chopped
  • handful Coriander chopped
  • 2 tsp Baking Soda or ENO
  • a dash Oil
  • 4 nos Cheese Slice

Instructions

  • In a bowl add suji, sprinkle salt, and pour in the curd. Whisk it and slowly start pouring water. Keep mixing to avoid any lumps. We need a thick but pouring batter-like consistency.
  • Heat a pan, pour oil, sprinkle Heeng, and dry red chillies. Saute for a few seconds and add urad dal, chana dal and chopped ginger and cook it for a few seconds. Add mustard seeds and once they splutter add in the curry leaves and green chillies. Give it a good toss and add this tempering to the batter. Add a handful of coriander and baking soda. Give it a good mix.
  • Heat a sandwich maker and drizzle some oil onto the inside of the sandwich maker. Carefully scoop out some of the batters and pour it into the sandwich maker. Then add slices of cheese to it. Cover the cheese with some batter, close the sandwich maker, and cook for 5-7 mins or till the sandwich gets a good brown color from the outside.
  • Remove and serve it hot.
