Salvadoran Cóctel de Conchas Recipe
This dish is popular at the beach and in coastal restaurants, but it’s also enjoyed as a light summer meal at home with family and as a side dish at gatherings.Cóctel de Conchas is usually served with crackers, extra lemon juice, and plenty of hot chili peppers.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Fresh clams (cleaned)
- 1/2 cup Lime juice
- 1/4 cup Lemon juice
- 2 Tomatoes (diced)
- 1/2 Red onion (finely chopped)
- 1/4 Fresh cilantro (chopped)
- Hot sauce (optional) – to taste
- Salt and pepper – to taste
Instructions
- Steam the clams in a large pot until they open. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Remove the clams from their shells and chop them into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large bowl, combine the clam meat, lime juice, lemon juice, tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.
- Stir in hot sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Serve cold, garnished with additional cilantro if desired.
