
Pithale (Marathi Dish)
Pithla, a traditional Maharashtrian delicacy, is crafted with chickpea flour, also known as besan. Here's the recipe to prepare this savory dish.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup – chickpea flour.
- 3/4 to 1 cup – water.
- 1/2 tsp – mustard seeds.
- 1/2 tsp – turmeric.
- 1 pinch – asafoetida powder.
- 2 tbsp – oil.
- 2 – green chilli.
- 2 – small pods garlic, cut in small pieces.
- 1 – small onion (optional).
- 1 – tomato, cut in small pieces.
- 1/2 tsp – red chilli powder.
- Salt to taste.
- 2 cups – water.
Instructions
- Mix chickpea flour in 1/2 cup water to make smooth watery paste.
- When the mustard seeds splutters, add asafoetida powder, turmeric, green chilli, onion and garlic.
- Fry till onion becomes pink. Add tomato and let it cook for a minute.
- Add hot water, salt, red chilli powder and stir well.
- When the water starts boiling, add besan paste slowly, continuously stirring the water.
- Cook till it becomes thick.
- Serve hot.
