Malabar Mutton Curry
Possessing a distinctive Kerala flavor, this dish complements items like pathiri and Kerala porotta. It is an excellent choice for preparation during the festive occasion of Eid.
Ingredients
- 800 gms Mutton
- 2 medium Onion medium
- 2 tbsp Chopped ginger
- 12-15 cloves Garlic
- 3-4 Green chilly
- 3 medium Tomato medium
- 1/2 cup Oil
- 1 tsp Jeera
- 1 tbsp Coriander
- 4-5 Red chilli
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek
- 1 inch Cinnamon
- 4 -6 Cardamom
- 6 -8 Cloves
- 2 Bay leaves
- 3/4 cup Coconut
- 2 tbsp Poppy seeds
- 10-12 Pepper
- 1 tsp Mustard
- Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
- Salt
Instructions
- Grind ginger, garlic & green chili. Heat oil in a pan & add jeera, coriander, red chilly, fenugreek,cinnamon,cardamom, cloves,bay leaves. Stir for 30 seconds & add coconut, poppy seeds, pepper. Once coconut becomes golden brown, switch off. Grind this mix into a thick paste.
- Heat oil & splutter mustard, curry leaves. Add onion, when it becomes golden brown add, ginger, garlic & chili paste. Mix well. Add mutton & stir continuously for 10 min on high flame. Add turmeric, chili powder, salt & tomato. Cook till the oil separates. Add 4 cups of water & boil. Cook till the mutton is done. Add masala paste. Cook for 10 more minutes, till the gravy becomes thick.
