
Kala Chana Chaat | Black Chickpea Salad
Kala Chana Chaat, also known as Black Chickpea Salad, is a healthy and flavorful Indian snack made with boiled black chickpeas tossed in a tangy mix of chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, fresh coriander, and zesty lemon juice. Often spiced with chaat masala and other Indian seasonings, this protein-rich dish is both refreshing and satisfying. Ingredients
For Tadka
- Oil (तेल) – 2 tbsp
- Heeng (हींग) – ½ tsp
- Ginger, chopped (अदरक) – 2 tsp
- Green Chilli, chopped (हरि मिर्च) – 2 nos
- Turmeric (हल्दी) – ½ tsp
- Chilli Powder (मिर्ची पाउडर) – 1½ tsp
- Roasted Cumin Powder (भुना जीरा पाउडर) – 1 tsp
- Chaat Masala (चाट मसाला) – 2 tsp
- Kala Chana, boiled (उबला काला चना) – 2 cups
- Salt (नमक) – to taste
- Kasoori Methi (कसूरी मेथी) – a pinch
- Water (पानी) – ½ cup
For Chana Chaat
- Onion, chopped (प्याज़) – ⅓ cup
- Potato, boiled & diced (उबला आलू) – ⅓ cup
- Tomato, chopped (टमाटर) – ⅓ cup
- Cucumber, chopped (खीरा) – ⅓ cup
- Salt (नमक) – to taste
- Black Salt (काला नमक) – ½ tsp
- Roasted Cumin Powder (भुना जीरा पाउडर) – ½ tsp
- Chaat Masala (चाट मसाला) – 2 tsp
- Coriander, chopped (ताज़ा धनिया) – handful
- Lemon, small (नींबू) – 1 no
Instructions
- For Kala Chana Chaat, start with tadka: heat oil, add heeng, chopped ginger, green chilli, turmeric, chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, boiled kala chana, salt, Kasoori Methi, and water. Simmer until well combined.
- Now mix the tadka with chopped onion, boiled & diced potato, chopped tomato, cucumber, salt, black salt, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, chopped coriander, and lemon juice. Toss well, and your tasty Kala Chana Chaat is ready to be served!
