
Jaljeera (Jaljeera Masala & Cucumber Mint Jaljeera)
Jaljeera is a traditional Indian summer beverage known for its tangy, spicy, and refreshing taste. Made with a homemade jaljeera masala blend of roasted cumin, black salt, and dry mint, this version adds a cooling twist with fresh cucumber and mint. The drink aids digestion, quenches thirst and revitalizes the body—especially in hot weather. Perfect as a welcome drink or digestive cooler after meals.
Ingredients
🔸 Classic Jaljeera Masala
- 2 tbsp + 1 tsp Cumin (roasted & powdered)
- 4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 2 tsp Cloves (powdered)
- 2½ tbsp Anar dana (dried pomegranate seeds, powdered)
- ½ tbsp Dried Ginger Powder (Saunth)
- ½ tsp Heeng (asafoetida)
- 2 tbsp Amchur Powder (dry mango powder)
- 2 tsp Black Salt
- 2 tsp Iodised Salt
- 1 tbsp Mint Leaves Powder
- ½ Lemon (juice)
- Handful Ice Cubes
- Chilled Water (as required)
- Handful Boondi (for garnish)
🔸 Cucumber Mint Jaljeera
- ½ Cucumber (grated or blended)
- Handful Mint Leaves (fresh)
- ½ Lemon (juice)
- Chilled Water (as required)
- Handful Ice Cubes
- Handful Boondi (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast cumin for 2 mins, now add peppercorns, cloves and Anar dana and toss them together for another 2-3 mins on low heat. Remove them to a plate let them cool off a bit. Now add them to a mixer grinder and grind them into a fine powder. Keep this powder in an airtight container to use it further.
- To Prepare Classic Jaljeera simply add 2 tbsp of the Jal jeera powder into a glass, squeeze half a lemon, pour water, add ice cubes and top it up with boondi. Stir and serve it chilled.
For cucumber & mint Jal Jeera
- For cucumber & mint Jaljeera add the Jal jeera powder in a blender along with roughly cut cucumber with its skin, mint leaves, lemon juice and water. Grind it to a fine puree. Add ice to the glass and pour over the ice our cucumber & mint jal jeera. Serve chilled.
