Moong Dal with Skin Recipe – A SIMPLE dal preparation cooked in a pressure cooker, with an additional tempering/tadka added at the end to enhance the flavors.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Chilkewali moong dal
  • 1 cup Water
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon Coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Cilantro or coriander leaves chopped finely

For Tadka

  • 2 teaspoons Oil
  • ¼ teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • ½ teaspoons Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger paste or freshly grated or crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic paste or freshly grated
  • ¼ cup Tomato chopped
  • ½ teaspoon Red chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Garam masala

Instructions
 

  • Wash moong dal under running cold water till water runs clear.
  • Take washed dal in a pressure cooker. Add 1 cup of water, close the lid, and put the weight on.
  • And cook it for 4-5 whistles on medium heat.
  • Let the pressure go down by itself. Then open the cover.
  • Turn the heat back on medium heat. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt.
  • Mix well. And let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • If needed you can add water at this point. Add water as per you liking consistency of dal.
  • Heat the oil in a small pan on medium heat. Once hot add mustard seeds let them pop.
  • Then add cumin seeds and let them sizzle a bit.
  • Then add ginger paste and garlic paste. Cook it for 30-40 seconds
  • Add chopped tomatoes. Cook it till it becomes soft but not mushy.
  • Add red chili powder and garam masala. Mix it well.
  • Add this tempering to simmering dal.
  • Mix it well. Switch off the gas.
  • Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves
