Red BBQ Slaw
Having spent my childhood in the picturesque foothills of North Carolina and relishing the flavors of Eastern North Carolina BBQ, we were accustomed to having barbecue slaw or red slaw alongside our pulled pork. The zesty and crisp texture of the marinated cabbage elevates the BBQ experience to new heights. This delectable side dish pairs perfectly with both pork and chicken, creating a harmonious culinary combination.
Ingredients
- 4 cups finely shredded cabbage
- ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes, or to taste
- 2 dashes hot pepper sauce, or to taste
Instructions
- Place the cabbage into a salad bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together apple cider vinegar, ketchup, sugar, red pepper flakes, and hot sauce until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the dressing over the cabbage, toss thoroughly, and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.
