Dutch Kruidnoten Recipe

Kruidnoten are traditional Dutch spiced cookies made with flour, butter, sugar, spices, milk, and either baking soda or baking powder.

Ingredients
  

  • Self-rising flour – 1 cup
  • Dark brown sugar – 1/3 cup
  • Specula as spice mix (or gingerbread spices) – 1 tsp
  • Butter (cold and cut in small chunks) – 3 tbsp
  • Milk – 3 tbsp

Instructions
 

  • Place the flour, sugar, and specula as spices in a food processor and pulse well
  • Add the butter and milk and mix everything until a dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic and let it rest for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll small ½ inch balls and place them on the baking tray.
  • Slightly flatten them by pressing lightly.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
