Dutch Kruidnoten Recipe
Kruidnoten are traditional Dutch spiced cookies made with flour, butter, sugar, spices, milk, and either baking soda or baking powder.
Ingredients
- Self-rising flour – 1 cup
- Dark brown sugar – 1/3 cup
- Specula as spice mix (or gingerbread spices) – 1 tsp
- Butter (cold and cut in small chunks) – 3 tbsp
- Milk – 3 tbsp
Instructions
- Place the flour, sugar, and specula as spices in a food processor and pulse well
- Add the butter and milk and mix everything until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic and let it rest for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- Preheat the oven to 350 °F
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll small ½ inch balls and place them on the baking tray.
- Slightly flatten them by pressing lightly.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
