Alasande kalu gojju recipe

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup alasande kalu or or black eyed white beans or lobia
- 1 onion finely chopped
- Pinch of turmeric powder
- Salt as per your taste
Ingredients for grinding:
- 4 – 5 cloves of garlic or 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 – 4 green chilies
- One handful coriander leaves
Ingredients for tempering:
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 4 – 5 curry leaves
- 4 tsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Soak 1/2 cup of alasande kalu or lobia in water for 2 hours. Soaking is optional. If you are in hurry proceed to step 2. Alasande kaalu or lobia will get cooked fast even without soaking.
- Cook the soaked alasande kalu or lobia until very soft. Use pressure cooker and required water to cook. Do not add salt.
- Mash the alasande kalu or lobia a bit using the back of a spatula.
- Meantime grind garlic (or cumin seeds), green chili and coriander leaves into a fine paste using mixer grinder.
- Next in a frying pan prepare tempering using oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Add in finely chopped onion and fry until soft.
- Add in ground spice or masala paste from step 4. Also add in turmeric powder. Stir until raw smell is gone.
- Add in cooked and mashed alasande kaalu or lobia. Also add in salt as per your taste.
- Add in required water and bring it to boil. Please note this curry will become thick once it is cool. So add the water accordingly. Serve it hot with chapathi.
