Ingredients
- 2 large sized onions
- 1 tomato
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 5 – 6 curry leaves
- Big pinch turmeric powder
- Big pinch hing or asafoetida
- Salt as per your taste
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Ingredients for grinding: (measuring cup used = 240ml)
- 2 tbsp roasted gram
- 2 – 3 red chillies
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
Instructions
- To beginwith, chop the onions and tomatoes.
- Take a frying pan and heat the oil. Add in mustard seeds and urad dal.
- When the mustard seed splutters add in curry leaves.
- Also add in chopped onions. Fry until onions turn soft.
- Next add in chopped tomato, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Fry everything together for a while.
- Add a little water.
- Close the lid and cook until tomatoes turn soft. It will take around 5 minutes.
- In that time let us prepare the masala powder. Grind roasted gram, red chilli, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and fennel seeds into a fine powder.
- Add it into the cooked onion and tomato. Give a good mix.
- Add in water as needed.
- Also add in salt as per your taste. Give a quick mix.
- Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes.
- At the end sprinkle some coriander leaves. Switch off the stove. Serve it with chapathi or dose.
