Ingredients
  

  • 3 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 tsp rasam powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Jaggery as per taste
  • Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 red chili
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4 – 5 curry leaves
  • A big pinch of turmeric powder
  • A big pinch of asafoetida

Instructions
 

  • Take garlic in a mixie jar. Please note, garlic is optional and you can skip it if you don't want.
  • Add in chopped tomato.
  • Add in chopped onion.
  • Add in rasam powder, red chilli powder, salt and jaggery.
  • Grind it into a semifine paste. Set it aside.
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add in mustard seeds and red chilli. Wait until mustard seeds splutter.
  • Add in curry leaves turmeric and asafoetida.
  • Reduce the flame and add in ground tomato onion paste. Give a quick mix and bring it to boil
  • Close the lid and cook under low flame.
  • Adjust the salt and jaggery level if needed.
  • Cook until it leaves the oil and switch off the stove. Serve it with dosa or rice or idli.
