For potato smiley
- Potato (आलू) – ½ kg
- Butter (मखन) – 2tbsp
- Garlic chopped (लहसुन) – 2tbsp
- Salt (नमक) – to taste
- Maida (मैदा) – 4tbsp
- Water (पानी) – ½ cup
- Cornstarch (कोर्न्स्टार्च) – 4tbsp
- Spring onion chopped (हरा प्याज़) – ½ cup
- Oil (तेल) – for frying
Cucumber dip
- Cucumber, grated (ख़ीरा) – 1no
- Hung Curd (गाढ़ी दही) – 1 cup
- Black pepper powder (काली मिर्च) – ½ tsp
- Coriander, chopped (धनिया) – 2tbsp
- Roasted cumin powder (भुना जीरा) – 1tsp
- Black salt (काला नमक) – ½ tsp
- Salt (नमक) – to taste
- Garlic, chopped (लहसुन) – ¼ tsp
For the potato smiley, peel the potatoes and put them in water. Then roughly dice the potatoes and boil them in water still it gets completely tender.Now, crush the garlic, and chop them finely. Then finely chop spring onions which will help the smilies to be in perfect shape. Check whether the potatoes are cooked by taking a dice of potato out of the water using a spoon and then press it with a fork. If the potatoes are cooked properly, it will mash easily.If cooked, strain the water and take the potatoes in a strainer. Then press the potatoes using a ladle thoroughly so that we’ll get creamy and lumps free mashed potatoes. For giving binding and a nice flavour to the potatoes, in a pan, add some butter and chopped garlic, toss it. Add water into it whenever the butter starts to boil, so that the garlic won’t get brown. Now, add refined flour for binding and cook it for approximately 30 seconds. Add the mashed potatoes into the pan and cook it for 2 mins to mix the flour and potatoes really well. Cool down the potatoes. After that, add chopped spring onions and cornstarch for extra binding. Cornstarch will also make our smiley crispier. Now, take some oil and grease the surface where we are going to shape the Smilies. Make small balls of the potatoes, then gently press them with your fingers and then roll the side of the smiley on the greased surface, like a wheel to get an even shape.
Use a chopstick to make the eyes and use a thin teaspoon to give the smiley its smile! Now, we just have to fry them, and for that take a pan or a kadhai, add oil into it and heat it and fry them on high flame.
Take the Smilies out and they are ready to be served. Enjoy them with any sort of dip and smile :)!
For Cucumber Dip
To begin with, cut and remove the top end part of the cucumber and grate it finely then remove the water by squeezing the grated cucumber using your hand. Now, in a mixing bowl, add hung curd, grated cucumber, black pepper powder, chopped coriander, roasted cumin powder, black salt, salt and a little bit of chopped garlic which is optional, then mix it well. Dip is ready to be enjoyed!
