Rinse toor dal.
Add in a cup of water, few drops of oil and big pinch of turmeric.
Cook until soft by making 3 - 4 whistles.
Heat a tbsp of oil. Prepare tempering with mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
Next add in chopped onion, green chillies and some curry leaves. Fry until onions turn soft.
Next add in ginger garlic paste (or chopped ginger and garlic). Give a quick mix.
Followed by add in chopped tomato. Fry until tomatoes are soft.
Add in red chilli powder.
Add in garam masala powder. Give a quick mix.
Add in cooked dal and required water.
Add in salt as per taste.
Bring it to boil.
Switch off the stove. Sprinkle corinder leaves. Serve it with hot steaming rice or chapati.
